Saturday, August 30th, The Lake County Schools Alumni Association honored Cora Hughes by being presenting the Outstanding Staff Member Award for Lake County Schools. The award was presented to Ms Cora at the Lincoln School Brunch by Randy Turnage of the Alumni Association. Mrs. Hughes is the first recipient of the award and going forward the award will be named the ‘Cora Hughes Outstanding Staff Award’.

The following are only a few of the many things that were submitted by her former students during the nominations:

Mrs. Cora was always positive, never heard a negative word come out of her mouth even when we were loud in the library. She knew how to keep us all in line with just a look. that "mamma's watching you" look. “The look” could make your feel ashamed or make you feel like the most special personal on earth. We knew and we all respected her for what she did for us, how she supported all of us, and how she treated us yet did not cut us any slack. She instilled self-responsibility in all of us and did not accept non-sense excuses. I am sure many of us only wish our kids would have a "Ms Cora" at their school. We all loved her and will always respect her for who she is and how she will always be a wonderful memory for all of us. Ms. Cora is never a quitter and would never let us quit.

The Cora Hughes Outstanding Staff Award will be presently annually and voted on by the Alumni of Lake County Schools. The award is presented to an individual who personifies the ideals of service to Lake County Schools students and the community, by willingness to go the extra mile while demonstrating a positive attitude. This individual exemplifies the ideals of service above self that Lake County Schools attempts to instill in its students.

The Alumni Association will present the award to of the Outstanding Faculty Award within the next few weeks. This award will also be named after this individual
